Teeth grinding FAQ
There are many potential reasons for teeth grinding.
The most common assumption is the connection with stress or depression.
However, there is also evidence of the wrong bite, which can also lead to bruxism.
Due to the enormous load, the tooth surface is worn down more than normal. Teeth break, fillings fall out, crowns burst. Often, not the occlusal surfaces or incisal edges are affected, but also tooth necks.
If the substance can withstand this load, the pressure continues into the temporomandibular joint. In extreme cases, permanent structural changes to bone, cartilage and ligaments can happen.
Severe pain can occur in muscles and teeth, spreading to enormous facial pain.
The grinding splint is an initial therapy. This protects the teeth and the joint as a first instance.
Accompanying physiotherapy with relaxation exercises can help.

Goals of the dental splint
A dental splint against grinding prevents the teeth from touching. The splint also serves as a kind of buffer between the upper and lower jaw. This protects the teeth as long as the cause of the teeth grinding has not been found.Â
