WHAT IS THE FUNCTION ANALYSIS ABOUT?
The masticatory organ has a very versatile and extensive connection to the rest of the body. Therefore, the dentist must also examine beyond the mouth.
The (disturbed) function of the masticatory organ is recorded and evaluated. This allows the cause of malfunctions and/or pain to be identified. Functional diagnostics is the overarching discipline in dentistry, with the following disciplines of dentistry (orthodontics, implantology, surgery, restorative dentistry and others) forming the tools for its implementation.
The functional analysis is a master plan for treatment of the masticatory organ.
WHAT IS BEING DONE?
A functional analysis has a clinical part (medical history, examination, x-ray) and an intrumenal part (axiography or condylography, articulator measurement). All jaw movements are recorded, occlusal surfaces are analyzed and general health is assessed. This usually requires 2 to 3 sessions

WHEN WILL IT BE DONE?
A full functional analysis does not always have to be carried out. If the function is already good, there is no compelling need to examine it.
The more the chewing surface is changed, the more important a functional analysis is. The masticatory organ has only limited adaptability.
