Bruxism – teeth grinding

CRUNCHING – CAUSE

The cause of bruxism is not fully understood. There are various approaches to describing this behavioral pattern. The most common theory is based on stress management. When a person is in a state of stress, the higher the probability that the grinding is more likely to be present or more pronounced.

DIFFERENT FORMS OF BRUXISM – CONSEQUENCES

The majority of patients grind their teeth in their sleep. Some patients also grind their teeth during the day, which they sometimes do not even notice as they are not doing it consciously. Many patients clench their teeth tightly.

The movement of the grinding pattern can also have different effects. The classic symptoms are muscle tension, facial pain and noise in the jaw joint. In severe cases, teeth or restorations can break.

THERAPY – SIMPLE SPLINT

In the modern age, stress has unfortunately become a part of our lives. Increasingly high mental performance is required. Therefore, one should try to treat the consequences of bruxism or to achieve a controlled grinding. The simplest therapy, which is very often successful (even if only temporarily), is splint therapy.

THERAPY – FUNCTIONAL DIAGNOSTICS

Very often, the splint does not achieve the desired success. Functional diagnostics are then required to enable the physiological function of the masticatory organ. Grinding can also function physiologically without a splint.
